Golden Monkeys 🐵

We woke up at 3 a.m. so we could drive out to see the golden monkeys. I honestly had no idea what the heck a golden monkey was, but I was excited to see any monkey lol. We also had the option to hike up into the mountains to see the silverback gorillas, which would’ve been amazing, but it was $1,500… excuse me?! I’ll skip it this time lol. Plus, I already have a gorilla at home 🤭

Once we got to the place where we were supposed to see the monkeys, we had to hike up for about 30 minutes to reach them. It was super slippery and muddy—everyone was slipping left and right 😂. At one point, we just started holding on to each other.

When we finally reached the monkeys, it felt like there were 100 of them. I was lowkey scared lol. I definitely didn’t want to get into a fight with a monkey. But they were so peaceful. They were just trying to find food and barely paid us any attention. We spent about two hours with them.

After leaving the monkeys, we went to the lake, where we spent the rest of the weekend. The lake was beautiful. We found out that Lake Kivu has one of the largest concentrations of methane gas in the world beneath it.

The rooms were pretty nice, even though they put a kid-sized mattress in there and expected someone to sleep on it lol.

The goal for the lake weekend was to stay in the pool the whole time, but sadly that didn’t happen. I didn’t even dip my feet in because of the weather. I did, however, get one of the best massages ever lol. I could’ve sworn she accidentally brushed against me a few times, but I might’ve been imagining it because I was knocked out for most of the massage lol.

After that I just chilled for the remainder of the day .

What I ate🥙:

They lowkey fed us the same thing all weekend for breakfast, lunch, and dinner lol. They thought they were slick, but we noticed that if we had fish for lunch, we’d end up having it again for dinner with some sauce added to it—and probably for breakfast the next morning too 😂.

Guess what? I still ate it 😂 (just big and nasty) that’s probably why my stomach was and still is hurting.

Random:

If you look a gorilla straight in the eyes they will take that as a sort of threat or challenge and they may hit you lol. My friend Kevin, who I met here in Rwanda, told me that African moms are the same way 😂😂😂. He said he got beat so many times with so many different types of slippers. Kevin is a cool person and I hope to stay connected with him.
