Day 2 – Memorial Museum
Today we started off at the market exchanging our U.S. dollars for francs, which is the currency here in Rwanda. I brought $300 with me, but I only exchanged $100, which came out to 146,200 francs. Boyyyy, I thought I was rich 😂. I sent you a video — you saw all that money I had? You ain’t never had that much money before lol.
After that, we went to the grocery store. I only grabbed a drink called Afia. It was pretty good. Have you ever chewed on sugar cane before? That’s what it tasted like.

After leaving there, we headed to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures inside, so I can’t really show what we saw, but honestly it was heavy. I actually teared up a little during the section dedicated to the children who were killed during the genocide. Reading their stories was crushing.
They talked about children from 6 months old to 17 years old being murdered. One of the hardest things to hear was how some parents were forced to watch their children being killed (heads chopped with a machete). I honestly can’t even understand how anyone could do something like that to kids.
They also talked about how the génocidaires used rape as a weapon during the genocide, including intentionally sending HIV-positive men to rape Tutsi women. That’s insane.
They planned to kill huge numbers of Tutsis and in just 100 days, more than 1 million Tutsis were murdered.
What I Ate 🍝:
For breakfast it was another buffet style at the hotel. I loaded eggs, danishes, fruits, and fish sticks on my plate lol. Fish sticks for breakfast sounds crazy but it went well with the meal.
We skipped lunch because of how long it took us at the Museum.
For dinner we ate at an Indian restaurant (of course I didn’t get the name of it🤦🏾♂️). The food was delicious, our professors ordered the entire menu served family style and the first round of drinks was on them, I got a Long Island. That was probably the strongest Long Island I’ve ever had. Stronger than 3 tequila sunrises from Bulldogs 😂. And ofc I got a milkshake and it tasted a bit more natural than the milkshake back home. My stomach was spinning.

On the way back home we sang Michael Jackson songs lol.
What I Miss?
The answer is always you btw! I’m missing your smile a lot today. I just wanna see you and stare at you 😂.

Random:
I realized that I haven’t seen not one traffic light but somehow they manage to move efficiently through traffic 🤷🏾♂️.
A new word I learned is Ubumuntu – means humanity – goodness, generosity and kindness. Someone who is Ubumuntu is someone who has greatness of heart.
Also I am thinking about you everyday- 100 times a day.
I love you Chink!
