Walking to the training center

Sankofa

I feel like Sankofa was mentioned so many times today that I had to name it that lol. Sankofa is an African concept that means reaching back and helping (Go back and fetch it). The members in my training group today reminded me of how important having and leaning on community is. We did an activity that asked them how they see themselves and one member said that she sees herself as self-reliant. She mentioned being able to be self-reliant only because of the support of others which made me rethink my relationship with the word. My mind immediately was like that’s a contradiction – as she continued to explain I started to see how it could be. No one is actually independent without community or support. Whether it’s from someone you know or not, you have received some help or support from someone in some way. That shifted my perspective significantly. It’s crazy that the western idea of self-reliance is being independent and not relying on any one. While here community and relying on others plays an important role in self-reliance. What do you think?

What I Ate 🥙:

For breakfast:

  • I had Maize porridge. it was really good!
I think it’s call Maize Porridge

For lunch:

I had some rice, potatoes, goat and chicken. The goat was on a skewer and it was super tough lol.

For Dinner:

I went out with my counseling peers. We went to a Chinese restaurant called bamboo. The food was so good but we ordered way too much😅.

Bamboo!

What I miss 🧡:

I really miss my buddies!

My buddies!

Random:

I got my hair washed, blow dried, and trimmed for 15,000 Francs which is $10 usd. That’s really insane man lol. It’s funny how the currency thing works.
