Coffee Beans

This morning we woke up really early to visit a coffee washing station…mind you the supervisor of this trip told us once we got to the lake that we could just chill and that there wasn’t an itinerary 🙃. She makes it mandatory that we all go to the coffee washing station. To get to the coffee station we had to travel by boat for an hour. The lake that we traveled on was called Lake Kivu. I may have mentioned this before but Lake Kivu produces the most Methane gas in the world underneath it. Meaning that Rwanda could be one of the richest countries in the world but because of the greed and corruption other countries and people have taken advantage of the opportunities of Lake Kivu 🌊.

The Lake is so beautiful! if I’m not mistaken I believe you can see the Congo side from the lake.

Once we made it to the coffee washing station, we were greeted by a group of women dancing and singing. It was such a beautiful experience and scenery.

If I’m being honest this was the highlight of my time so far! I love to witness traditional African dancing and singing. watching those women dancing you can tell that it is something from within. Something stronger, something more divine. We asked what were the words that they were singing and of Rwandan professor said “they are just happy and being thankful for what they have.”

We spent time walking around the coffee washing station while one of the supervisors of the station explained to us how it works. Now I wasn’t paying enough attention to walk you through that process lol….sorry but here are some pictures and videos of it.

These are the stations that the coffee beans go through to get washed and separated.

Also there is a video of me trying to do what they do which is carrying the coffee bean sack on my head. Boyyyy that thing is heavier than it looks. I was struggling while they just do it with ease.

That sack had to be like 70 to 100 something pound lol.

Also the coffee beans from this place support the coffee place in Atlanta called Land of A Thousand Hills Coffee. which started an initiative called Drink Coffee. Do Good.

What I ate 🥙:

I mentioned on day 10 that the staff at the lake thought that they were slick feeding us the same food but in a different way lol. So we had fish, chicken, rice, bananas, potatoes and beef. and we had this all weekend until we left 😂. But this time they said that we were having a bbq lol.

What I Miss 🧡

I miss watching tv shows with you I can’t wait to get back and catch up on all the shows that we haven’t watched since I left. Thank you for pausing and waiting on me to get back 😘. I really appreciate that and it shows how much you enjoy watching those shows with me.

Random:

People are so kind! I mentioned to one of our tour guides from the coffee washing station that I really liked his necklace. Next thing you know he was taking it off and handing it to me 😭. I almost cried. He told me how he made it out of the resources he found. I asked him what does it mean to him and he said it reminds him of where he has been and what he can become…like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon .

Cedric and I

I am so thankful to have met people who are so kind. Kindness is the word for this trip! Ubugwaneza!
