First Training Day
Man! I am exhausted! Today was the first day of training and it was longgggggg. That video sums up how I feel because they worked me boyyy! We woke up at 6:45am, so we been up all day.
Despite the day being long, it went really well. Hannah and I are partner and we work really well together so I’m happy about that. There’s a language barrier so we have using translators, which can create a bit of distance between the participants and us.

There is this one girl in my group that I’m pretty sure has a crush on me. Today she came up to me and said (in her thick Rwandan accent) that she wanted to know more about me. I thought it was sweet lol.
I was nervous about working with the Rwandan people but even more so excited to be doing this kind of work. Talking with them and hearing their stories is an honor. They are such sweet people and for them to have experienced a genocide 32 years ago is blowing my mind. They are teaching me so much about life, forgiveness, love, moving forward, and more. Talk about a group of resilient people!
This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.
I also found out after talking with Kevin, whom I met at Mindleap that tuition for a semester at university in Rwanda is 250 USD. I said “whattttt”. He said yeah that’s a lot of money here. To think I spend that much on stuff that I don’t even need or used made me rethink the way I spend my money. I could be helping him pay his tuition. Which I think I am going to do because he mentioned having to take this semester off because he couldn’t afford it.
What I Ate 🥙:
For breakfast I had chicken wings lol. Wings for breakfast is crazy 😂. They were soooo good. I can’t even recall what flavor they were .
For lunch we ate with the participants, we had goat, chicken, potatoes, rice, and bunch of other things I don’t know the name of 😂.
For dinner, we had fish, rice, pasta, goat, and bread. Clearly you can tell the popular meat is goat. Which has been good each time.
What I miss:
I miss my friends. I’ve only talked to Kaleb since I been here and that was only one time. So I need to reach out to them and update them on how the trip is going.
Random:
This trip is introducing me to so much about myself and others. I said before I came that I wanted to gain a new perspective and it is for sure happening. I’m so grateful to be on this trip.
